Revelation: Worship the King

The future is naturally uncertain, but perhaps believers have never felt so shaken and insecure as in the third decade of the 20th century. We went through the trauma of COVID-19, and our faith in many of our institutions was shaken and has never stabilized. Hostility to Christianity seems to be constantly growing.

We need the message of the book of Revelation! The 19th-century satirist Ambrose Bierce defined Revelation as a “famous book in which St. John the Divine concealed all that he knew” (The Devil’s Dictionary). But in reality, Revelation shines the glory of Jesus on our dark worries. Because he is the great King, the ruler of all earthly kings, with every event of history playing out exactly according to his plan, moving unstoppably toward his great victory and the destruction of evil and the eternal joy of his church, we must trust him and follow him. We must worship the King.
